OTT Revenue Will Double in Five Years

Western European OTT TV and video revenues will more than double between 2015 and 2020, says Digital TV Research. From the $894 million in 2010, and $6.3 billion expected this year, revenues will climb to $13.7 billion in five years’ time.

$9 billion will be added between 2014 and 2020. The UK will contribute $2.15 billion; Germany $1.6 billion; France $1.2 billion; and Italy $1.12 billion. The UK will remain the OTT market leader.

SVoD will become Western Europe’s leading OTT revenue generator in 2016. Revenues will reach $6.5 billion by 2020: 47% of total OTT revenue. This is an increase from $106 million in 2010, when SVoD represented 12% of OTT revenues in the region.

Digital TV Research estimates that there will be more than 55.6 million SVoD homes in Western Europe by 2020, from 1.7 million in 2010 and the 15.3 million expected this year. Germany will overtake the UK as the region’s largest SVoD home market in 2020.

By the end of the forecast period,, 32.2% of the region’s TV households will take an SVoD package, from 9% at the end of 2014. Penetration will be noticeably higher in the Nordics. However, four of the top five countries (France, Germany, Spain and Italy) will be below 30%.
