Oppo Global Research Institute has announced that it has demonstrated 5G video calling using 3D structured light technology.
The demonstration used a customised Oppo R11s smartphone with an integrated structured light camera, collecting the colour and 3D depth information of the target object using RGB. This information, transmitted via 5G, displayed the target object on a remote display screen.
Analyst Comment
Oppo really didn’t release much detail about what it did, but the structured light camera is used to capture the depth map of the content and transmit it over the 5G along with the image, making masking and 3D effects much more useful. (BR)
