The Nintendo Switch has outsold its predecessor, the Wii U, after less than a year on sale.
The Wii U, released in 2012, sold 13.56 million units in its lifetime, before finally being discontinued in 2017. The Switch, on the other hand, has already sold 14.86 million units in its first ten months of release.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are two of the Switch’s best-selling games, despite also being available for the Wii U.
Super Mario Odyssey is the console’s biggest-selling game, having sold 9.07 copies since its release in October 2017.
Nintendo has just reported its most profitable quarter since 2009 and announced an operating profit of ¥116.5 billion ($1.06 billion) up from ¥32.26 billion ($294 million) last year.
