NexChip and Samsung Foundry emerged as dominant forces in the global display driver IC (DDIC) market for the third quarter of 2024, according to Omdia’. NexChip led the large-area LCD driver IC segment, while Samsung Foundry secured the top spot in the AMOLED driver IC market, marking a significant shift in industry leadership.
NexChip claimed a 42% market share in the large-area DDIC sector, cementing its position as a key player in LCD driver IC production. Chinese foundries collectively captured 49% of the large-area DDIC market in 3Q24, maintaining their lead after surpassing the 55% mark in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, Taiwanese firms, including UMC, Vanguard, and PSMC, followed closely with a combined 38% share.
In the small and medium-sized display market, NexChip also led the LCD driver IC segment, while Samsung Foundry continued to dominate the AMOLED space, holding a 31% share. Samsung’s strong performance was attributed to its collaboration with Samsung LSI, driving growth in the AMOLED driver IC market. TSMC’s share rose to 17%, fueled by production for Apple’s iPhone 16 series, while UMC expanded to 26%, with Novatek as its largest customer.
