Plaza Rio 2, a new shopping centre in Madrid, Spain, is home to LED canopies, facades, columns and bulkheads, all designed to light up in sync with one another, architected by Chapman Taylor and displaying content designed by Necsum.
According to Chapman Taylor, the centre is a 40,000m² retail and leisure development which provides a mix of fashion, food, restaurants and entertainment. Visitors are met by a blond granite and glass curtain façade, with terracing and a large, transparent LED screen. The interior incorporates a glazed skylight and an LED cloud to supplement the natural light.
Necsum says that the cloud of lights is made up of more than 400 transparent sheets. Sensors make the installation interactive and allow visitors to participate in the experience.
