New Lens Enables Display Testing From The Same Position As The Human Eye In AR/VR Headsets

Radiant Vision Systems introduces a new AR/VR lens for measuring light, color, and image accuracy of near-eye displays within augmented and virtual reality headsets.

The lens replicates the size and position of the human eye, allowing ProMetric imaging systems to test across the user’s full field of view.

Replicate the human eye

Evaluate displays as users experience them. Simulating the size (3.6 mm) and position of the human pupil, the AR/VR lens captures up to 120° horizontal, capturing the scope of the approximate binocular FOV of human vision.

Unobstructed field of view

Test displays at extremely close range. The AR/VR lens aperture is located in front of the lens to enable positioning the imaging system within headsets to capture the entire embedded display without occlusion by headset eye lenses.

High resolution

Pair with ProMetric 16- and 29-megapixel imaging colorimeters and photometers to capture high-resolution images for pixel and sub-pixel measurements, detecting the smallest defects and anomalies in LED, LCD, OLED, and projection microdisplays.

AR/VR software tools

Apply TrueTest™ Software tools for AR/VR display measurement, including luminance, chromaticity, contrast, uniformity, pixel/line defects, as well as Slant Edge Contrast (for MTF), Image Distortion, Image Retention, and X,Y coordinates in degrees (°).

Evaluating everything the user sees

With aperture positioned at the front, the AR/VR lens captures the full display FOV without occlusion by the headset hardware (eye lens frames). This addresses the limitations of standard measurement lenses, as seen below.
