MediaTek Inc. saw Q3 net profits fall 1.6% to NT$7.8 billion ($247.6 million) from NT$8.0 billion ($251.7 million), on turnover of NT$78.4 billion ($2.5 billion), up 37.6% from NT$57.0 billion ($1.8 billion). For the nine months there were profits of NT$18.9 billion ($597.4 million), compared with NT$21.6 billion ($682.6 million), on revenue of NT$206.8 billion ($6.5 billion), a rise from NT$151.5 billion ($4.8 billion).
The company is rolling out new Helio chips, which are higher margin, to improve the figures and is looking for ways to gain a greater presence in the automotive market. Qualcomm’s acqusition of NXP, and the foothold in automotive applications which it brings, is expected to impact on MediaTek.
