MediaTek announced FY17 Q2 results with consolidated revenues of NT$58.1 billion ($1.9 billion) and net profits of NT$2.21 billion ($73 million), resulting in a net profit margin of 3.7%. Quarterly revenues were down 20% on a yearly basis but up by 3.6% on a quarterly basis. Quarterly net profits were down both on a yearly and quarterly basis, by a significant 67%.
MediaTek credited its sequential revenue growth to increasing market demand for certain consumer electronics, while the decline on a yearly basis was due mainly to lower shipments for smartphones. At the same time, a favorable product mix affected the gross margins positively leading to a 2% increase on a quarterly basis.
