Media Consumption Via Mobile Will Rise

By 2019, 26% of media consumption will be mobile, according to forecasts from Zenith. It was 19% in 2016. Back in 2010, people spent just 10 minutes a day browsing on the mobile internet, but Zenith thinks this will rise to 122 minutes by 2019. This has been driven by an increased number of mobile devices, better technology and more mobile-adapted content. Although some of this use has moved from other media, overall media consumption has increased by an average of 2% per year. However, the rate of growth is slowing as the mobile market matures.

Mobile devices will account for 71% of internet use in 2017, with N America (76%) and Asia Pacific (75%) the heaviest users. But despite this, 69% of global media consumption will still be via traditional media. Broadcast TV is still the biggest medium by consumption time, but Zenith expects the gap between TV and internet consumption to narrow in the next couple of years.
