LG Display has announced that its OLED TV and transparent OLED panels have been awarded eco-friendly certifications from global verification institutions. These certifications highlight the company’s efforts in reducing plastic usage and increasing the incorporation of recycled materials in its products.
The company’s OLED TV and gaming OLED panels have received the ‘Low Plastic Content’ verification from UL Solutions, marking a first for display panels with less than 5% plastic content by weight. This includes the company’s 65-inch OLED TV panel, which contains approximately 4% plastic content, significantly less than LCD panels of the same size.
OLED technology’s elimination of the backlight unit reduces the need for plastic and allows for the replacement of major panel parts with recyclable materials. This has led to a recycling rate of 92.7% for parts at disposal. LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panels feature ‘Meta Technology 2.0’, achieving around 22% higher energy efficiency compared to previous models.
LG’s transparent OLED has received the Eco-Product Certification Mark from SGS, marking the first certification of its kind for Transparent OLED. This certification recognizes products that comply with global environmental regulations and meet eco-friendly criteria throughout their lifecycle. The panel scored highly in resource efficiency, energy efficiency, and minimal use of harmful substances, with components comprising up to 23% recycled materials.
