We have received an invitation to an event that officially confirms that LG will launch a new flagship smartphone at MWC. It is – unsubtly – called ‘LG G5 Day’. Prizes awarded to those that guess the name of the handset…
The invitation asks attendees to “Come meet new friends on the playground”, with animated GIFs of childhood toys, including a robot and a wooden bi-plane. Other media outlets have received an image of a green music box with the words ‘Play begins’.
LG appears to be hinting strongly at music and gaming as focus areas for its new phone. Rumoured specifications include a 5.3″ display (2560 x 1440), Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
We also received an invitation to a Samsung event at MWC, taking place on the same day as LG’s. It was significantly more secretive, though – the black background only broken by what appears to a smartphone box, with blue light coming from inside. What this denotes is anyone’s guess, but we will be at both LG and Samsung’s product launches to bring you the news.
