LET’s profit in 2021 to hinge on Samsung foldable phone success

What They Say

The Elec reports that South Korean display equipment manufacturer Leading Edge Technology (LET) in 2021 will rely for its profits on how many foldable smartphones Samsung can ship. The site reports that sales were down 50% in 2020 as Samsung bought fewer laminating machines than expected. Besides the laminators, LET also supplies bending protector layer systems and cover resin dispensers for the ultra-thin glasses.

LET makes fingerprint on display (FoD) laminiators, used to attach the fingerprint reader onto the OLED panel so if that technology takes off further, that will help its sales. It is developing versions that can laminate over the whole display.

LET listed on the Kosdaq last year.

What We Think

The change of the smartphone market to a ‘hits business’ has an impact back though the supply chain. (BR)
