The illusion of a waterfall has been created in the middle of the Mojave Desert, more specifically in the lobby area of Weed Army Community Hospital at Fort Irwin, California.
nuMedia Innovations chose PixelFlex’s TrueFlex 10mm indoor LED display technology for the installation, which simulates the appearance of four 18′ (5.5m) high waterfalls, designed to relax and soothe anxious visitors. The original concept was expected to use 40mm pitch displays, but the technology evolved rapidly during the development process.
Ray Winters, nuMedia Innovations Studio Director and Senior Project Manager said:
“Because the LEDs are relatively low-rez, the set-up uses a diffusion layer (which softens the light) and a ½” thick piece of glass, mounted on earthquake rated standoffs. The acrylic, frost diffusion,”really accentuates the illusion of an actual waterfall behind the glass, and the TrueFLEX system looks great.”
