LCD Monitor Shipments Experience Decline, Looking for a Rebound Soon

According to the latest report by market research firm TrendForce, global shipments of LCD monitors recorded a decline in the first quarter of 2023. The quarter witnessed a 7.4% decrease quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), with a significant year-on-year (YoY) decline of 20.5%. Major brands such as Dell, HP, and Lenovo were particularly affected, experiencing substantial drops in shipment levels.

Dell’s shipments fell by 15.6%, while HP and Lenovo experienced declines of 22.8% and 19.2% respectively. Conversely, several consumer brands witnessed growth in their shipments during the same period, primarily due to inventory replenishment in March. AOC/Philips, in particular, stood out, benefiting from robust demand in the Chinese consumer market. Their shipments grew by 10.9% QoQ and 3.3% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

Looking ahead, TrendForce predicts a rebound in LCD monitor shipments during the second quarter. This anticipated recovery is attributed to Chinese market channels stocking up for the 618 shopping day, increased demand for gaming monitors, and the successful introduction of new 100 Hz products in the consumer market. TrendForce estimates that 31.4 million LCD monitors will be shipped in Q2’23, reflecting a QoQ increase of 9.3%, while the YoY decrease is expected to narrow down to 13%.

Acer, a leading brand in the adoption of new 16:9/100 Hz products, is expected to witness significant growth in LCD monitor shipments in Q2. They are projected to experience over 40% QoQ growth. Additionally, MSI has joined the ranks of the top ten brands in LCD monitor sales for 2023. MSI has been launching high-resolution, high refresh-rate, and other high-end products, as well as gradually introducing high-end QD-OLED products to the market. With the expansion of its business product lineup, MSI’s LCD monitor shipments are anticipated to grow by nearly 20% in the second quarter.
