There has been strong growth in pay-TV in Latin America, according to research shown at the April seminar of the Pay-TV Innovation Forum held in Las Vegas. The research was done by MTM, an international research and strategy consultancy that was supported by Nagra.
Countries are in very different stages of development, so pay-TV growth rates vary accordingly. High growth markets, including Mexico and Peru, were up 23% from 2014 to 2016, while moderate growth countries, such as Columbia and Chile, saw an 8% rise. Brazil saw a levelling out, due to the economic climate.
Pay-TV operators in Latin America are responding to the demand for OTT services by launching their own interactive services, but OTT is generally still in its infancy.
