According to new data from Digitimes Research, worldwide shipments of large-sized LCD panels (≥9%) will grow at a CAGR of 0.2% in terms of units and 5% in terms of area between 2018 and 2023.
An increase in the average size of TV panels will boost area shipments and the continued development of ultra-large-sized TVs with higher resolutions will help to maintain or increase prices and profits. Meanwhile, other applications such as all-in-one PCs, monitors, notebooks and tablets will only see marginal growth during the forecast period.
Conversely, shipments of large-sized LCD panels for ATMs, automotive displays, industrial and medical environments and public information displays (PIDs) are expected to pick up steam over the next five years. Digitimes predicts that overall area shipments of panels for non-TV use will grow at a CAGR of 10.7% through 2023. More specifically, automotive panels are set to increase at a five-year CAGR of 15.8%, with PIDs at 10.7%.
