Citing a report from IHS Markit released earlier this week, Business Korea confirmed that China has indeed overtaken South Korea in its large-scale LCD market share. Chinese manufacturer BOE took the number one spot in August, with shipments of 13.32 million units. Korean companies Samsung and LG follow with 5.46 million and 1.19 million respectively, while Taiwan’s AOU and Innolux round out the top five with 1.03 million and 1.02 million respectively.
The figures mark the second month in a row that BOE has beaten LG Display to the top position, after the Korean firm managed to hold on to the top spot from February to June.
The report goes on to say that China are keen to capitalise on this forward momentum and make in-roads in the OLED industry, where Korea currently holds a 95% market share.
BOE is preparing to ship OLED screens for smartphones from its facility in Chengdu, starting this month.
