The OLED emitting materials market seems to continually shifting between Korean and Chinese manufacturers. UBI Research says, in the first quarter of 2024, Korean OLED panel manufacturers purchased $495 million in emitting materials, accounting for 51.2% of the market share—a decline of 7.8% compared to the same period last year. Chinese companies increased their share by 7.8%, reaching 48.8% with purchases amounting to $471 million.
The first quarter of 2024 was the first time the market share of Korean companies in emitting material purchases dropped to 47.4%, falling below the Chinese for the first time. In the second quarter, Korean manufacturers did rebound to 54.7% market share as an increase in OLED panel shipments for IT devices and production for the iPhone 16 kicked up.
According to UBI, BOE’s delays in mass production and failure to secure certification for the iPhone 16 Max at its B12 factory swung the pendulum in Korea’s favor. By the end of 2024, Korean manufacturers are expected to hold a 55.6% market share in emitting material purchases with help from iPhone 16 and iPad Pro sales.
