Kobo Avoids Colour

While eReader sales continue to fall and companies hunt for the next big thing, Kobo has come straight out and said that it will not move away from its monochrome roots. President Michael Tamblyn confirmed that the company will not make a colour eReader.

To be fair to Kobo, there isn’t a lot of choice when it comes to mass-producing a colour electrophoretic display. Each technology has its issues, whether that is low resolution, subdued colour or cost. Liquavista was a promising technology – although with large pixels – but we haven’t heard anything about it since the Amazon acquisition in 2013 (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 20). (TA)
