Kglass to expand into Chinese foldable UTG market

What They Say

The Elec reported that a display glass processing firm, Kglass, will expand into China via a South Korean software firm, Softcen, which will take a 40% share in Kglass. It will provide the equipment for back end processing of Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) including the cutting to size for cover windows for flexible smartphones. Softcen has already signed a deal, the paper said, with Jiangsu Suchuan Technology.

The technology is reported to have been qualified by NEG and LG Display.

Softcen is owned by a Hong Kong-based private equity firm, Hong Kong Chun Shun International Trading Limited. One of its two subsidiaries in China will focus on OLED materials and process systems.

What We Think

Samsung Display will start supplying flexible displays with UTG to firms other than Samsung Electronics in the second half of this year and that will boost the share of UTG compared to polyimide covers. (BR)
