Highlights from the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony were played on the channelJapan began 8k broadcasts on the 1st August – five days before the Olympic Games. NHK is running the satellite channel, which will show a mix of UltraHD and 8k content between 10am and 5pm. The plan is to switch to fully-8k content before the 2020 Games in Tokyo. NHK has set up several public viewing areas for 8k content at broadcasting stations across the country.
