What Display Daily thinks: The short answer is, yes. The company may have the resources and just enough money to hit verticals in education, retail, and healthcare, as well as automotive, and the usual round of display OEMs, but does it really.
The retail cloud and the retail signage and labels is intriguing. How much focus and effort can you put into it because creating cloud software platforms to manage all those devices, grow your business, and be effective against companies that already do something similar is a pretty big challenge. Retail would seem like a huge market, and I can buy into the strategy of adding value through device management software, in all the cases of diversification being made here.
But, the 3D surgery one just seems out of line, and education is a great market, but you have automotive and you have retail. You acquired a German electronics company for the former, and you have an interesting cloud software strategy for the latter. Maybe some day, your fast food digital menu at the drive through window would mirror on your car display in the dashboard, courtesy of AUO, but that’s about the only possible connection.
Conceptually good. Take a whack at the weeds and you might not like what you see. We have proverbs for this sort of thing and maybe they should be taught in management classes, Jack of all trades, master of none.
AUO Emphasizes Diversification and New Business Models
AUO is set to exhibit at Touch Taiwan 2024 and the emphasis is going to be on its diversification into new business areas and integration of AI into its business offerings across various industries.
- Smart Retail: The launch of the AUO Retail Cloud Platform, which connects over 30,000 client nodes worldwide, helping retailers manage digital signage across all stores, including dynamic pricing to minimize food waste. This includes AUO Electronic Shelf Label Solutions (ESL) which essentially promotes digitizing labeling in retail stores and managing them dynamically through the cloud, as well.
- Smart Education: Introduction of the AUO Device Management System (ADM) to enhance interactive learning with better management of digital classroom devices. This combines with something called AUO Display Plus (ADP). Essentially, this is another combo of services added designed to manage educational displays and multiple devices.
- Smart Healthcare: AUO is introducing advanced 3D imaging technologies for surgical and diagnostic purposes, including the innovative SurgiEyes for 3D surgical visualization and high-end displays for medical imaging. The technology is already installed in 20 surgeries in Japan.
- Sustainability Efforts: Then there is the emphasis on sustainability through the adoption of a circular economy concept, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote recycling at the exhibition. And everything that makes managing your devices, replacing paper with digital signage, and stuff like that is sustainable.
