The bigger pay-TV providers were hit again this quarter with further subscriber losses, with internet delivery the only method seeing gains, according to research from the Leichtman Research Group. Cable, satellite and phone companies lost a total of 943,230 subscribers while those using internet delivery gained 536,000.
Last year in Q3, cable lost 90,000 subscribers. This time it was over 289,000. Satellite losses of 475,000 compared with a gain of 5,000 a year ago. Meanwhile, telephone providers did better with losses of 179,000, down on last time’s losses of 370,000. Internet delivery gained 536,000 subscribers this year, well up on gains of 200,000 in Q3’16.
