LG supplanted Samsung as the number-one supplier of AMOLED panels for smartwatch applications last year, according to IHS Markit.
IHS Markit’s data indicates that LG shipped 10.64 million panels and took a 41.4% share of the market, while Samsung slipped into second place with 34.8%. EverDisplay, AU Optronics and Beijing Oriental Electronics rounded out the top five.
Apple saw its smartwatch shipments soar in 2017, beating out the previous top-two, Fitbit and Xiaomi, to gain a 15.3% market share. Analysts estimate that 70% of the AMOLED panels used in Apple Watches last year came from LG Display, according to Korea’s Joongang Daily.
