I/ITSEC Wows With Projector Progress

We conducted multiple video interviews at I/ITSEC 2015, and have links to all of them. Highlights include Christie’s Accuframe Pro system, JVC’s move to 100% solid-state light sources and Third Dimension’s 3D demonstration.

  • Boeing does a nice job of explaining how it built up a very complex synthetic database for flight simulators using multiple inputs and layers. http://tinyurl.com/p3k5yc3
  • Christie‘s new Accuframe Pro allows a 120 fps refresh rate with minimal motion blur using a 60 fps input and without loss of brightness using a black frame insertion technique. http://tinyurl.com/o3sc9cd
  • JVC showed a demonstration using a laser phosphor projector and 10-bit data with a modified Perceptual Quantizer (PQ) EOTF (like a gamma curve) that is needed to properly render high dynamic range content. http://tinyurl.com/owt5u94
  • JVC’s ‘Blue Essence’ laser phosphor moduleJVC is part of the trend to move from lamp-based projectors to solid-state projectors – those using LEDs or laser-phosphor light sources. At I/ITSEC 2015, JVC explained its laser phosphor technology and benefits for the simulation market. http://tinyurl.com/p9ha6w2
  • JVC and Boeing have been working on e-shift technology for the simulation market for a few years. At I/ITSEC 2015, they showed for the first time, a prototype 8K resolution e-shift projector that uses a laser phosphor light source. http://tinyurl.com/qey4ofh
  • Rockwell Collins had a press event at I/ITSEC 2015 where it unveiled an ambitious new plan to offer a synthetic database covering the whole earth over the next two years. http://tinyurl.com/ppj7kkh
  • Operation Blended Warrior is a 20-company Live Virtual Constructed exercise on the I/ITSEC trade show floor covering 3 days with a specific scenario. http://tinyurl.com/pfjhakr
  • Rockwell Collins and WorldViz teamed up to show a virtual reality training application. http://tinyurl.com/jal8z5k
  • Scalable Display has a new concept called a Huddlewall that uses a novel technology from Anoto to facilitate interactive whiteboard collaboration. http://tinyurl.com/nwecmux
  • One of the more impressive demos at I/TSEC 2015 was a light field display from Third Dimension Technologies. This is a glasses-free 3D display that has a very big eyebox (12 inches) and very nice stereo effect. http://tinyurl.com/nlxbuwg (3D version also available: http://tinyurl.com/njhow3f)
