Nokia’s smartphone business HMD has announced updates to three of its models — Nokia 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1 — all running Android Oreo, with support for Google’s Android One programme and prices starting from $115.
That’s for the Nokia 2.1, which comes with Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition, a “lite” version of the operating system designed specifically for devices with less than 1GB or less of RAM. That also means more basic versions of apps, though users do have the option of downloading the full-fat versions from the Play Store.
Besides that, the Nokia 2.1 also features a 5.5″ LCD display with 720p resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, as well as a Snapdragon 425 chipset, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, expandable via microSD. It also includes an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel internal camera.
Meanwhile, the 3.1 model, priced from $160, runs the full Android 8.0 experience, incorporating a 5.2″ LCD display with 1440 x 720 resolution in an 18:9 aspect ratio. Its MediaTek 650 chipset is paired with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB internal storage, again expandable with a microSD card.
Camera-wise, the Nokia 3.1 features a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel internal camera. Some versions — presumably the more expensive RAM/ROM configuration — also include NFC capabilities.
Finally, the Nokia 5.1, which starts at $218, also runs the full Android 8.0 OS, but features a 5.5″ LCD screen with 2160 x 1080 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Alongside the more powerful MediaTek Helio P18 chipset, its available RAM and ROM configurations are identical to the Nokia 3.1.
Additionally, it features a 16-megapixel rear camera and the same 8-megapixel internal camera as the 3.1. It’s also the only model of the three to feature a fingerprint scanner alongside its NFC functions.
Nokia 3.1 will be available next month, with the 2.1 and 5.1 joining the roster in July.
