HKC has announced a milestone for itself: the successful development of the world’s first 6.67-inch glass-based High Mobility Oxide (HMO) backplane MicroLED display panel.
At the heart of HKC’s innovation is its proprietary HMO backplane, a second-generation metal oxide material that offers 20 to 50 times higher electron mobility compared to traditional amorphous silicon (a-Si). HKC’s display achieves peak brightness of 1000 nits, 95% brightness uniformity, an ultra-high contrast ratio exceeding 1,000,000:1, and 99% DCI-P3 wide color gamut coverage.
In April 2023, JDI and HKC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to form a strategic alliance aimed at advancing next-generation display technologies, including HMO backplanes and eLEAP OLED technology. The partnership intended to leverage JDI’s innovative technologies and HKC’s manufacturing capabilities to establish a new global display ecosystem.
However, by October 2023, JDI and HKC decided to conclude discussions on the broader strategic partnership outlined in the MOU. Instead, they chose to focus their collaboration specifically on the high-end automotive display sector.
