Hitachi Shows First UST L/P 3LCD Projector

At ISE, Hitachi launched several new laser-phosphor projectors. These include the LP-AW4001 3LCD UST unit, the DLP-based LP-WU6500 unit for medium sized venues and the LP-WU9100B for larger installations. They also introduced a 65” interactive flat panel display.

Hitachi demoed its first-ever 3LCD Laser Ultra Short Throw projector at ISE, the LP-AW4001, which will be formally launched this summer. The LP-AW4001 has 4,200 ANSI lumens with a 20,000 hour lamp life. The system has WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution and a 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. When available, the projector will actually come in two versions, the LP-AW4001 without built-in interactivity and the LP-TW4001 with built in pen/finger interactivity. The projector will have a five year/20,000 hour warranty, whichever comes first. Hitachi must have recently increased confidence in this projector because the printed material and even the booth said 10,000 hour warranty, but in the booth this was replaced by 20,000 hours.

New Laser Phosphor Additions

Hitachi also introduced two additional new laser models to the existing projector line-up: LP-WU6500 and LP-WU9100B, both single-chip 0.67” DLP projectors with WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution. The LP-WU6500 is a 5,000 ANSI lumen laser model with up to 20,000 hours of light source. The projector comes with a lens with manual focus, zoom and lens shift. The lens has a 1.15:1 to 1.9:1 throw ratio. The unit has 360° installation capability, two internal 5W speakers and a variety of interfaces including HDBaseT, HDMI, HDMI 3 and MHL. The USB type A interface is for powering external devices and the USB Type B is for service. Hitachi says it is “the perfect choice within the education sector or medium size conference rooms.”

The more powerful LP-WU9100B boasts 10,000 ANSI lumens and WUXGA (1920 x 1200 resolution). There are seven optional lenses to choose from, giving it a wide flexibility in installations. There is one fixed short throw lens with 0.38:1 throw ratio plus six zoom lenses that cover the range from 0.8:1 to 8.8:1. The lenses have powered focus, zoom and lens shift. The unit has two HDMI ports plus one each DVI-D, SDI and HDBaseT ports. Hitachi says it is a good projector for integrating into applications such as museums and retail.

During ISE Hitachi also launched their new 65” 4K UHD-6510 interactive flat panel display (IFPD), which has been designed for boardrooms, classrooms, lecture theatres, atriums and consultation rooms. Key features of this new 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) model include 350 cd/m² brightness, 10 point infra-red multi-touch connectivity, wide viewing angle (±178°) and anti-glare glass. It is said to have a 4000:1 contrast ratio. There is an OPS slot for an optional built-in PC. The unit has dual 8W speakers. In additional to 2 x HDMI and 2 x DisplayPort digital inputs, it has one analog VGA input. There is also a USB Type A input for media playback and a 10/100Mb LAN connection. It is designed for a maximum use of 16 hours a day. –Matthew Brennesholtz
