Himax Promoting 3D Near-Eye Display Technology at CES 2025

Himax is unveiling new 3D naked-eye displays at CES 2025. The technology combines a sophisticated eye-tracking system using structured light with a specialized display that can show different images to each of your eyes, creating a convincing 3D effect.

The key breakthrough appears to be how they’ve minimized the delay between your movement and the 3D image updating, while also reducing power consumption compared to existing solutions. They claim their approach is less likely to cause discomfort during extended viewing periods, which has been a common problem with previous 3D display technologies. The system is designed to be versatile enough for integration into various devices like TVs and kiosks.

As part of this announcement, the company is also introducing a new processor called HE-2. This chip can process 3D imagery at 60 frames per second and handle complex 3D calculations efficiently while supporting multiple types of 3D sensors. It’s designed for applications like gesture control and eye tracking.
