HEVC Wins Primetime Emmy Engineering Award

Last week, the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC), was awarded the Primetime Emmy Engineering Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its development of High Efficiency Video Coding, also known as HEVC or H.265.

HEVC is the new industry standard for video encoding, particularly among Ultra HD content providers. The highly efficient compression scheme enables providers to encode video in high quality at a much lower bitrate than its predecessor, H.264. All UHD broadcasters have adopted, or are in the process of adopting HEVC as their go-to compression method.
