Fujitsu Seeks Partner For Mobile Phones

fujitsu

Fujitsu has said again that it is considering several possibilities for its mobile phone operation. The company made the business a separate unit in February 2016 and has sought a partner since then to help it to compete. There has been interest from investment funds and rumours have named both Lenovo and Hon Hai Precision as potential bidders. The unit is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and Fujitsu is refusing to be drawn on details, simply repeating that it is looking at many options.

Lenovo is not doing well financially at the moment. (Lenovo Result 21/08/2017). Fujtsu and Lenovo have been talking for a long time about a tie up in the PC business. Fujitsu doesn’t really have the scale to be competitive, but has a very good presence in Europe, in the German corporate market especially and Lenovo should be able to exploit that. However, we haven’t seen any real news about this for some time. Fujitsu is one of the few remaining Japanese brands in the mobile space alongside Sony and Sharp. (BR)
