Front Pictures Projection System Used for VR-Free 360° Dome

The Gwangju National Science Museum and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. chose Front Pictures to deliver a projection system for South Korea’s first spherical projection theatre, Space 360.

The sphere, which is 12 metres in diameter, is located next to Lucerium National Science Museum in Gwangju, South Korea. Construction started in September 2016 and finished in July 2017. The sphere opened for visitors in September 2017 and the project was shortlisted among the Top 10 finalists in the Visitor Attraction Project Category of the 2018 InAVation Awards.

Visitors step inside onto a transparent, glass observation bridge, which crosses the sphere’s interior, on which a 360° video projection is displayed. Front Pictures used its proprietary Screenberry media server for video playback and auto-calibration, having customised the code to enable projection onto the spherical screen. The system is also capable of playing any full-dome or VR content.
