Fraunhofer IAP and Notion Systems Partner to Drive Electrohydrodynamic Printing in Advanced Display Technologies

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP (Fraunhofer IAP) and Notion Systems have announced a strategic partnership to further develop electrohydrodynamic printing for display technologies and new applications.

Fraunhofer IAP is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest organization for applied research. Its core expertise lies in polymer research and process development, making it a key innovator in materials science for industries such as automotive, packaging, and electronics.

Notion Systems GmbH specializes in the design and production of industrial inkjet printing equipment. Its systems are used in applications ranging from printed electronics and 3D printing to printed circuit board fabrication, enabling advanced manufacturing processes across multiple sectors.

In this collaboration, the two partners will focus on technologies that support the production of high-precision, functional materials. Their initial efforts center on developing new printing materials and optimizing manufacturing processes for OLED/QLED displays. By harnessing the capabilities of electrohydrodynamic printing—which uses electric fields to create finely controlled droplets—Fraunhofer IAP and Notion Systems aim to achieve higher resolution, enhanced accuracy, and greater efficiency. They also plan to expand this technology to other markets, including biomedical devices and emerging areas in micro- and nanostructure fabrication.
