According to GfK figures, reported by Advanced Television, TV set sales in France for 2016 reached 6.5 million boosted by the Euro 2016 football tournament. Sales reportedly jumped by 1.4 million compared to 2015 according to the figures. Also, GfK predicts that sales will decrease in 2017 with 5.3 million units sold but with two thirds of the sales being 4K and Smart TV sets.
GfK believes that secondary TV sets were renewed in 2016 at an average price dropping from €420 in 2015 to €385 in 2016. The market, however, achieved revenues of €2.4 billion, up 16% year-on-year.
The HD switchover in 2015 also aided more sales for HD adaptors, DVD recorders and remote controls and totalled around €700 million in sales.
TV sets and decoders excluded, the French consumer electronic market in 2016 saw a 2% decline to €15.5 billon, but it is still ahead of other Western European countries.
GfK also estimates that the French SVOD market jumped by 36% in 2016 to €109 million.
