Foxconn Was the Top Smartphone Manufacturer in 2017 Q4

According to Digitimes, IDC Taiwan has reported that Foxconn beat Samsung to the number-one spot in the smartphone manufacture race during the fourth quarter of 2017, thanks to the release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Samsung dropped down to second place.

Meanwhile, Pegatron jumped up from fifth place to third, also thanks to the new Apple releases, while Oppo and Vivo rounded out the top five. The next five makers were LG Electronics, Inventec, Flextronics International, Huaqing Telecom Technology and ZTE.

Production was weak in Q4, down 13.8% on 2016 and only 2.1% up on Q3, in what is normally a seasonally strong quarter.
