The EE Times reports that some of the engineering resources previously used by Sharp to develop LCDs in Japan are now being used to develop other innovative products in cooling, in IoT and in light management, using knowledge gained in developing backlights.
Separately, the Chinese paper, Liberty Times, has said that the G10.5 fab due to be built by Foxconn and Sharp in Guangzhou may be postponed as the company has not yet placed orders for equipment. The report said that negotiations with the local government may have hit trouble.
Analyst Comment
It’s likely that several current plans are likely to slip, given the oversupply that is coming up over the next couple of years in LCD supply. (BR)
