Microsoft is developing a new foldable Surface tablet, according to Windows Central.
Citing unnamed sources, the report states that the device, codenamed Andromeda, will run Windows 10, built with Windows Core OS and CShell. It will function as a tablet while open, shrinking to the size of a mobile phone that can fit into your pocket when folded. The source reportedly described the device as a “digital pocket notebook”, though it will apparently also allow the user to make and take phone calls.
To be expected with a device of this nature, Andromeda will apparently incorporate Windows Ink, Microsoft’s pen computing software suite, as well as the conventional Start Menu and Windows apps like the Edge browser and Photos.
The rumours surrounding Andromeda conjures memories of the Microsoft Courier project, a foldable tablet device first reported in 2008, and subsequently cancelled in 2010 (Display Monitor Vol 17 #18).
