Foldable ‘Galaxy X’ Will Appear in 2017

According to SamMobile, Samsung’s first foldable phone (which we have known is coming for several months) will be released in 2017 and called the Galaxy X. It will use an UltraHD pentile-type OLED display. SamMobile claims that the Galaxy X will be one of five flagship phones released next year, with the Galaxy S8, S8 Edge, Note 7 and Note 7 Edge also coming, all with 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Analyst Comment

The UltraHD display on Sony’s Z5 Premium has not been the killer app that the company was hoping for. Hopefully the Galaxy X will not be seen as a gimmick, like Sony’s phone was. There is, of course, a lot of difference between a simple resolution change and a whole new form factor, but customers still need to be convinced that it is worth the extra money. (TA)
