Field Tests Demonstrate ATSC Benefits

Field tests of ATSC 3.0 signals are taking place in Cleveland, USA, over the summer. An experimental broadcast licence has been granted to Tribune Broadcasting’s WJW-TV by the FCC. WJW-TV will provide a transmitter, tower and 6MHz channel for the tests, which began in May, by LG, Zenith’s R&D lab and GatesAir.

So far, the results have shown how ATSC 3.0 will be able to deliver UltraHD content and two mobile TV streams in a single 6MHz channel. The results have been labelled as ‘encouraging’, especially for mobile TV.
