Emotion-Sensing Eyewear Launches in the UK

Emteq Labs, a company based in the UK, has introduced Sense, what it claims to bebemotion-sensing eyewear for wearable health. Apparently inspired by the efficiency of the vision of a fly, Emteq’s smart eyewear can measure facial expressions, monitor dietary habits, and track various health metrics using AI-powered sensors. The company is positioning Sense as a platform capable of transforming how people understand their emotions and behaviors, particularly in the context of health and wellness. By detecting subtle facial movements with high accuracy (>90%), the glasses provide real-time insights into factors that affect long-term well-being.

Led by Dr. Charles Nduka, an expert in facial musculature, Emteq Labs has spent years developing technology that was previously confined to labs and healthcare settings. The platform can track not only emotional responses but also physical activities like eating and posture, with a potential impact on fields ranging from mental health to augmented reality. The company’s new CEO, Steen Strand, brings experience from his time at Snap, where he worked on augmented reality glasses.

The technology behind Sense uses optical sensors to capture facial muscle movements and a camera to log food intake. This data is processed by AI algorithms and can be shared with professionals if the user consents. Commercial development kits will be available in December.
