Earthquake Causes Little Trouble to Korean Panel Industry

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 hit Korea’s east coast in the early afternoon of November 15th. However, it caused only a couple of hours disruption to the panel industry. Samsung Display’s production lines closed down automatically when the tremors were felt, but were only out of action for under two hours. The company says that it will not have a big effect on capacity. Most of LG Display’s lines were unaffected, but two were temporarily shut down – one of which produces TV panels. However, LG commented that the peak period has already passed and its inventory levels are high enough to make the impact minimal.
