Automotive Display Conference

The purpose of the SID Automotive Display Market Conference (ADMC) is to explore business and market issues facing the display industry as it grows in all automotive and vehicle applications. We recommend a title of “Safety, Utility, Ubiquity” given the opportunities for strong growth in this sector for the display industry. The SID 2018 ADMC seeks to build on the success of the 2017 ADMC and the ongoing SID Metro Detroit Vehicle Displays Symposium with a 3/4-day conference oriented to the business and market aspects of automotive displays. We anticipate that, as in 2017, the ADMC will be coupled with an automotive track in the technical symposium to form a complete overview of industry developments that will be attractive to display makers, automotive suppliers, OEMs, and analysts for both the display and automotive industries. Immersive Experience Conference

The purpose of the SID Immersive Experience Market Focus Conference is to examine the current and future prospects and technologies that guide this new industry into expanding beyond simple Virtual Reality and Augment Reality. Immersion is a new concept in which the common theme is how it alters the way we interact with absolutely everything. Facebook is 2D (even the 360 videos are viewed on 2D). Texting is 2D. FaceTime is 2D. VR/AR proponents want to convert to a 3D space. How would web design change if instead of up/down and left/right scrolling, the actual webpage took up a 3D space? What if learning was physical? Instead of studying pictures of human anatomy, all parts of a human body (inside and out) would be available including the interface, which would be a more natural interaction, as we physically operate in 3D, so the transitions would be pretty easy. AR/VR will not have “arrived” until we do mundane and boring things with it. The conference will examine these issue and the basics of how the display industry will need to change to cope with the demands of immersion. First, the market opportunity will be discussed, from both a qualitative (what products) and quantitative (how many) standpoint. Then the four main elements of the immersive experience will be examined: 1) Goggles and Glasses, 2) Direct View/Micro Displays, 3) Virtual Displays and 4) Next Generation Magic.
