For the past five years, Dolby has been studying the biophysical and emotional responses of the human body against a variety of visual and aural stimuli, and exploring how producers are taking this knowledge, tailoring their content to provoke certain physical responses with the images and sounds they are using.
Lauren Goode from The Verge visited the Dolby Labs in San Francisco to talk to the team of scientists performing these experiments. One of the tests in particular investigates how the brightness and quality of an image mastered in HDR can provoke physical responses such as pain or warmth in viewers.
