DisplaySearch: LG Display Has Begun iWatch Production

NPD DisplaySearch’s Charles Annis believes that LG Display is ramping up production of 1.3″ and 1.5″ OLED displays, in preparation for Apple’s iWatch launch. In a blog post (http://tinyurl.com/oskvp46), Annis writes that the displays have 320 x 240 resolution and are fabricated on plastic substrates. It is believed that they will be made using a technique known as ‘electronics on plastic by laser release’ (EPLAR). DisplaySearch estimates that, with yield rates of 60%+ (last year’s rates were believed to be sub-20%), LGD could produce more than 10 million panels this year.
