Digitimes Research has released new data indicating that shipments of smartphones from China-based vendors increased by 20% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2018, up to 176 million units.
The publication also surmises that shipments will maintain this momentum during the third quarter but overstocking problems in the fourth quarter will see shipments decline, negatively affecting overall second-half performance.
In terms of second-quarter shipment growth, Huawei leads the pack, with Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo rounding out the top four. Huawei’s expansion beyond China into international markets and its range of entry and mid-range products have contributed significantly to its second-quarter performance, Digitimes Research says.
The bulk of Xiaomi and Vivo’s shipments remained domestic, while Oppo is beginning to increase its international presence, slowly but surely. Huawei is predicted to steal more share from Oppo and Vivo domestically, and from Xiaomi in European markets.
