Panasonic has today launched the DMP-UB700 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player. It not only delivers breathtaking pictures in pin-sharp 4K, but also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging. The DMP-UB700 extends Panasonic’s successful line-up of Ultra HD Blu-ray Players, offering many features of the DMP-UB900 – which was recently awarded ‘European Ultra HD Player 2016-2017’ by EISA – such as the 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor and 4K content streaming support.
After meeting the stringent technical specifications standardised by the Ultra HD Alliance, the new player has been granted ULTRA HD PREMIUM certification. Together with the compatible Panasonic VIERA DX900 4K TV, the DMP-UB700 can reproduce stunningly beautiful pictures and sound when playing 4K HDR content.
An extra boost of expertise in the making of the DMP-UB700 came from the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL) Blu-ray R&D facility. The specialists there fostered and refined a new 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor equipped with imaging technologies such as chroma and high gradation processing – the power behind the new DMP-UB700. The result is a thrilling home entertainment experience as the artists intended with every movie and programme.
For more flexibility and convenience, the DMP-UB700 features Twin HDMI outputs. By separating video and audio signals, transmission of the picture and sound is clearer and more accurate. Support for high-resolution audio formats such as DSD and ALAC – as well as popular 4K Video on Demand (VOD) – is also part of the package with the DMP-UB700.
What is Ultra HD Blu-ray?
Ultra HD Blu-ray is a next-generation Blu-ray Disc™ standard that supports 4K resolution (3840 x 2160). But Panasonic’s DMP-UB700 goes beyond that, also supporting HDR – achieving true-to-life 4K image reproduction with high frame rates of up to 60p and a brightness range of up to 1000 to 10,000 nits.
High-quality picture: Unique picture-enhancing technologies faithfully reproduce original images
The DMP-UB700 incorporates a newly developed 4K-ready engine: the 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor. By using an original, highly accurate multi-tap process, it delivers beautiful, natural pictures with life-like depth, vivid colours and high-contrast dynamics. The DMP-UB700 also has an original 4K Direct Chroma up-scaling function so that it can deliver 4K-quality pictures with high resolution and beautiful colours from 2K content.
Furthermore, thanks to the player’s BT.2020 wide colour gamut, it can display over twice as many colours than BT.709 devices, offering a new movie viewing experience for those who demand premium picture quality.
High-quality sound: Unique audio technologies achieve rich sound reproduction
Because the home cinema experience isn’t just limited to superior visuals, the DMP-UB700 has also been engineered for bombastic audio. The Twin HDMI arrangement separates audio and video signals to suppress unwanted noise and achieve high-quality audio reproduction.
In addition to conventional WAV/FLAC/MP3/AAC/WMA formats, DSD (5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz) and ALAC music files can also be reproduced in high resolution. Simply connect to a home audio system to enjoy music sources equivalent to studio-master sound quality.
Essential for cinema lovers, the DMP-UB700 also offers Digital Tube Sound with up-sampling. The distinctive, warm and comforting sound characteristics of tube amplifiers are faithfully simulated. Six different kinds of sounds from vacuum tubes with 96kHz/192kHz up-sampling can be enjoyed in exceptionally high quality.
Smart networking: Fully fledged network functionality makes it easy to enjoy a variety of 4K sources
The DMP-UB700’s entertainment functions aren’t limited to Ultra HD Blu-rays, the device can also stream online 4K videos, for example through YouTube and NETFLIX. Just like when playing a disc, the high-definition online video signals are being processed by the original Panasonic 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor to achieve crisp, beautiful images.
For enthusiastic videographers or photographers, there’s the option to reproduce 4K videos (MP4) and JPEGs in 4K resolution. This makes it possible to enjoy the memories of holidays or special occasions in all their natural beauty, from magnificent landscapes to precious images of family and friends.
Being DLNA compatible, the DMP-UB700 also allows every member of the family to freely share content, photos and videos – and even music – with other connected devices throughout the home.
