Creating a Truly Glasses-Free Display

University of California researchers have formed a split-off company, 20/20 Display Technologies, that will launch a product eliminating the need for corrective eyewear when viewing mobile devices.

The technology has been tested and can compensate for both near- and farsightedness; astigmatism; and higher-order vision problems that cannot be corrected with eyewear or lenses.

The researchers developed their own algorithms to adjust the pixels in a display. These pixels are calibrated to a user’s prescription, creating a clear image on the display. The technology is said to be compatible with most of today’s devices. 20/20 Display Technologies intends to apply it to smartphones, tablets, eReaders and desktop monitors.

The company is currently seeking investors and partners.
