Mumbai-based Videocon Industries has secured a contract to produce 500,000 handsets for Coolpad India – a subsidiary of China’s Coolpad. Production will take place in Q1 of the next fiscal year, at Videocon’s Aurangabad facility. COO Abhijit Kotnis said, “We see huge business potential in manufacturing in India and we are in talks with several device vendors including Chinese and Japan-based companies”.
Analyst Comment
Kotnis was one of the executives that was involved in Europe when Videocon took over the Thomson CRT business some years ago.
