Consumer TVs Affect Public Display Market

The global digital signage and professional display market is growing at a CAGR of 8.3%, says IHS: from 4.4 million units in 2015 to a projected 7.7 million in 2020.

In Q1’16, public display growth was driven by higher unit shipments of 32″ and 49″ screens, as well as a shift towards larger displays in the education and corporate markets. 60″-69″ displays are the most popular size, and the 70″-79″ size class is the fastest-growing in the education and corporate collaboration sectors.

According to Sanju Khatri of IHS, consumer TVs will continue to limit public display growth. More customers will risk buying consumer TVs as prices fall, rather than turning to more expensive commercial displays – especially companies that do not need to show sophisticated content. “We’ve already seen two major consumer TV brands position their products in the public display space, and we expect this trend to increase in future,” Khatri added.
