New Chinese Subsidies Incoming

According to sources in Asia, the Chinese government is preparing new subsidies aimed at energy-efficient electrical appliances, including LCD TVs.

Subsidies could begin in March, the sources said. They will total about CNY5 billion ($800 million), of which between CNY2 billion ($320 million) and CNY3 billion ($480 million) will be dedicated to TVs.

When the previous round of subsidies ended in 2013 (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 9), TV sales in the country fell and Chinese panel makers were left with excess capacity (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 29).
